The Quebec government is considering imposing a curfew, as well as extending school closures in an effort to contain the spread of COVID-19, according to Radio-Canada.
Sources also tell Radio-Canada the Legault government is looking at shutting down non-essential activities in the manufacturing and construction sectors.
The premier's first public COVID-19 update of the year was originally scheduled for today at 5 p.m, but has been postponed until tomorrow.
A curfew would be a first in Quebec since the start of the pandemic.
"That is an extremely restrictive measure," Benoit Barbeau, a virologist in the department of biological sciences at the Université du Québec à Montréal, told CBC Montreal's Daybreak when asked about the idea of imposing a curfew.
Last month, the province put in place its strictest public health rules since last spring, including closures of schools and non-essential businesses during the holidays. Those measures are currently set to end in less than a week.
